Bare Axis

About this site

Bare Axis is a small, single-subject site: one five-step course for Australian readers opening their first free-to-play desktop game account, with a checklist at the end of every step. It is published by Decor charm production s.r.o., and it sells nothing.

Why a course and not articles

The material here could have been written as a dozen separate articles, and it would have been less useful. Someone opening a game account for the first time has a sequence of decisions to make, and the decisions depend on each other: there is no point reading an account agreement for a game your computer cannot run, and no point securing an account you have not decided to open. Five steps in a fixed order, each ending in something you can actually do, matches the shape of the task.

There is no sign-up, no login and no record of progress. Reading a step is the whole of participating in it.

Editorial method

The course was structured by working backwards from the decisions a first-time player has to make, in the order they arrive: what the arrangement is, whether the machine can do it, what is being agreed to, how to set it up, and what happens afterwards. Each step was then written to leave the reader able to do one concrete thing, and each checklist was written as a set of statements that are either true or not.

Three kinds of source sit behind the steps:

  • Australian government guidance, for anything touching classification, consumer rights, privacy, online safety and cyber security. Where a step relies on one of these, it links to the body's own site rather than paraphrasing a rule: the Australian Classification Board, the ACCC, the OAIC, the eSafety Commissioner, Scamwatch and the Australian Cyber Security Centre.
  • What a vendor publishes about itself: system requirements, account agreement, privacy notice and support pages. The course teaches you to read the current version rather than quoting figures that would be stale within months.
  • The ordinary mechanics of desktop software — installers, launchers, patches, settings menus — which change slowly and are described in general terms that apply across the category rather than as a tour of any one product's interface.

Where something is not known, the course says so. There are no statistics, test results, benchmarks or performance figures anywhere on this site, because none were gathered here and reproducing someone else's without context would be worse than silence.

Authorship and review

The course is written and reviewed by the Decor charm production s.r.o. editorial team. There are no bylines, because no individual claim of expertise is being made and the material does not need one. The whole course is reviewed at least twice a year, and more often if an Australian government page it relies on changes materially. The date of the last review appears in the footer of every page on this site.

The commercial relationship, stated plainly

One product is named in the course: World of Warships, a free-to-play online naval game for desktop Windows and Mac computers. Decor charm production s.r.o. has a paid affiliate relationship with the network that promotes it, and is paid a commission when a reader follows one of the three labelled links on this site and goes on to create and activate an account.

That relationship is the reason this product, rather than another, is the one named. It is not the reason the steps say what they say: no checklist item, caution or recommendation on this site was written to make a sign-up more likely, and several of them — the written spending limit, the advice to store no payment method, the suggestion that stopping after four weeks is a normal outcome — point the other way. The course is complete and usable with every affiliate link removed, and the checklists name no product at all. The arrangement is set out in full on the Affiliate Disclosure page.
